I do not think that word means what you think it means

So what's with this word, "friend"? I have a list of "Friends" on livejournal, and a list of "Friend of". Or is that "Friends of"? Whatever. My point, to the extent that I have one, is that the word "friend" in my lexicon is by nature reflexive. If you're my friend, I can assume that I am your friend. And I'm not sure if all the people I have listed as "Friend" are really my friends. They're just the people whose journals I pay attention to.

Really, if I have news as my Friend, I'm not saying that news is my friend. Not that I have special animosity to news. I just wouldn't invite it to my birthday party.
