Why do we keep doing this?

Why do we continue to insist on labelling all political scandals with the suffix "-gate"? Do we not know the word "scandal"? Does it make it a catchier phrase when we call it "Travel-gate"? Or, in this case, Fajitagate? That's right, Fajitagate.
