I guess I'm reassured that he wasn't comfortable making level of religiousness an issue in a Presidential campaign... if he had been comfortable with it, we might have seen executive policy far more predicated on positions of faith rather than evidence.
For the sake of accuracy, I will record here that my vote represents the uninformed guess I made before looking up the answer, and does not represent an attempt to bend reality to my will via repetition of an incorrect statement.
His reluctance to use the military for nation building is probably part of the reason we had problems in Iraq for as long as we did. He might have thought it ought primarily to be a State department job - in principle, I would agree - but in practice, the State department simply doesn't have the right kind of staff to do it.
Heck, until Rice started nearly requiring it for promotion, no one in the State department even wanted to learn Arabic.
As a random tangent, each year the elementary school has a character education slogan; this year is "Walk the Talk". I think it's an aspect that's overlooked a lot. :S
