So you mount a bunch of these things onto a carrier missile, and fire it up somewhere. Then they all fly off, and hover around shooting their (regular old bullet-firing) guns at whatever.

I think specifically that the targets are supposed to be ballistic missile warheads and decoys. Presumably the jet used for hovering would be used for intercept in space.

Well, yeah, that's it's intended purpose. But it seems like something with pretty general applicability. (Admittedly, if you were using it for something on Earth, it could have wings, so maybe what we do isn't to just use the same MKV thing, but a modified one.)
